Big Release Weekend for OM

by Faith Harting

Here at Olivia Management, we have had a big week with two releases! We couldn't be more thrilled to share the incredible music from our talented artists Alex Blue and Josh Radnor.

Alex Blue release her EP “Day Job: Pretty in Pop” on October 11th! It is such a fun and honest EP. Click to image below to give it a listen!

Josh Radnor released his new single “Don’t Get Sick This is America” on October 11th. Josh writes “Topics Covered: Health care, poverty, racism, sexism (get psyched!) Oh, and because this is the internet and tone tends to get misread or lost entirely, I mean the opposite of everything I say in the song.” Go give it a listen!

We are so proud of these artists and hope you love their new music as much as we do!

AMERICANAFEST Wrap Up - From An Intern!

By Alexa Sangalis

Now that all AMERICANAFEST events are completed and everyone’s life is back to normal, it’s time to reminisce on what a fabulous week that was! We had the pleasure of being a part of so many events at AMERICANAFEST this year, and so did I (Olivia Management’s 19-year-old intern, Alexa!). I felt so lucky and awe-struck by each of the events I attended, especially the ones OM produced. Call me biased. I went to two of our events this year: A Tribute to Mary Gauthier and In The Round. If you didn’t get the chance to catch the events in person, don’t worry, click here to see our Olivia Management highlight of the week on Instagram.

Last Tuesday, we kicked off the week with the Tribute to Mary Gauthier at City Winery. The lineup of this show was truly one of a kind. Mary is such a beautiful songwriter who has influenced so many musicians and touched the hearts of Americana music lovers everywhere. Mary’s songs were covered all through the night by many of her close friends, including EmmyLou Harris, Gretchen Peters, Lori McKenna, Jamiee Harris, and so many more. I had a unique perspective of the event because I had the job of working the merch table with some fellow friends from Olivia Management. Almost everybody who came up to purchase something (speaking of which, you can also buy Mary’s amazing merch here) shared a bit of their love for Mary with us. We met a woman who flew from Australia to celebrate her love of folk music, many, many people who praised Mary’s book, “Saved by a Song,” a man who got his book signed by Mary herself, and even a City Winery employee who asked who was performing because she loved the music so much. I knew that Mary Gauthier is critically acclaimed and appreciated by many, but I only knew this after experiencing the tribute and meeting all of those lovely Americana lovers. Click HERE to see some performance highlights!

Then, on Saturday, it was a showcase of Olivia Management clients at Jackalope Brewing Company. In case you didn’t know, not only are we a Nashville-based folk and Americana artist management company, but we also consult for emerging artists. Our lovely CEO and Founder, Erin Anderson, advises artists in career decisions and helps them organize their lives as an artist. So Saturday was 7 amazing hours of showcasing our consulting and management clients alike. Click HERE to view the full lineup, and HERE to watch some highlights of the day! Once again, I had the pleasure of working the merch table for most of the morning. This time, I got to talk with emerging artists, make the merch table all pretty as each artist rotated, and meet audience members who were actively discovering the new music they would be streaming in the future. This showcase was really special for me. Seeing so many people who have a dream and a love of music is inspiring to anybody, and especially to a 19-year-old intern.

Mary Gauthier and Jamiee Harris Performing at City Winery

Here’s a recap: our management clients are awesome, our consulting clients are awesome, and Olivia Management is awesome. From my perspective, AMERICANAFEST is a celebration of good music (of course), good songwriting, and good times. Even as an intern, I was able to experience all of these celebrations firsthand. If you didn’t go to any Olivia Management events, you may have missed out, but now you know to join us in the future. Until then, check out our artists on tour and stay tuned for Olivia Management updates on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and our website.

We’ll see you next year, AMERICANAFEST!

Our Artists Best Covers

By: Charlotte Ulman

Our artists are not only exceptionally talented songwriters but also remarkable vocalists. Covering another artist's song brings the challenge of honoring the original, and we believe these renditions from Alex Blue, Ruthie Collins, and Street Corner Symphony exceed expectations.

Alex Blue - Never really Over (Katy Perry cover)

Alex Blue's rendition of Katy Perry's "Never Really Over" infuses a vibrant pop energy, delivering a powerful and memorable chorus. Filmed in august of 2019, right on the cusp of a global pandemic, uncertainty, and fear, this cover offers a sense of hope and inclusivity to its listeners. The melody is captivating, and the harmonies stand out beautifully in this performance!

Ruthie Collins - One Last Time (Ariana Grande cover)

We dove deeper to discover this gem: Ruthie Collins performing Ariana Grande’s “One Last Time” backstage before a show in 2015. Collins infuses the pop song with her unique charm, slowing it down and adding a folk twist—a challenging feat for a pop track. Her reimagined rendition transforms the song into a beautiful piece that we absolutely adore!

Street Corner Symphony - The Evolution of Country Music

Street Corner Symphony presents a unique twist with this a cappella cover of iconic country songs spanning from the 1930s to the present day. Their harmonious blend of voices, enhanced by Armand's resonant bass, creates a captivating performance. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, we take pride in seeing our artists connect deeply with the city's rich country music heritage.

What We're Listening to in The Office

by Maddie Humble

If you ever stop by the office, you can almost always find us playing something in the office. From Selena Gomez to our own artists, you can find us playing a plethora of music genres that we enjoy.

Here are the albums we’ve been listening to this month:

Selena Gomez’s “Revival” album has been on full blast in the office this month. Clearly, we’re team Sel. Some of our favorite songs from this album include Kill Em With Kindness and Same Old Love.

The next album that we’ve been listening to is one of our very own artist’s, Sam Johnston. His album “Cannonball” has been a favorite of ours. One of our favorite songs from this album is Runaway Train.

We have also been listening to quite a few 70’s artists. Abba has probably been the most popular band we have listened to thus far from that era. We personally suggest the songs Angeleyes and Chiquitita on this album.

The 1975’s newest album has also been on repeat in the office. Songs like Oh Caroline and Happiness keep the good vibes going throughout our workday.

We would be lying if we didn’t admit that Jill Andrew’s “Thirties” album isn’t playing nonstop in the office. We LOVE this album. Our personal favorites from this album are Call It Even and River Swimming.

Finally, the last album we’ve been listening to nonstop is John Mayer’s “Battle Studies” album. Grace especially has loved this considering she is a major John Mayer fan. Our favorites from this album are Edge of Desire and Assassin.

We hope this gave you all a little more insight into what we’ve been listening to! Hopefully, you can add some of these to your own playlists.

Artist Spotlight: Derek Webb

by Jacob Welsch

From getting his start in Texas-based folk/rock band, Caedmon’s Call, to then ruffling political & spiritual feathers alike during his nearly 20-year solo career, there is not much our very own Derek Webb hasn’t done. Derek has always been vocal about his work and his vision, and has recently made way with his highly anticipated upcoming album “The Jesus Hypothesis.”

Derek is not one to stop there. Through his journey of creating and putting together this upcoming project, he has decided to take his fans on a voyage of emotion, storytelling, and exploration of beliefs through his intimate house show tour across America.

You may be asking yourself, “So what exactly is a house show tour and how does that even work?” Here’s what happened;

We reached out to some of Derek’s biggest fans across the country in hubs. We planned dates, ticketing, cities, weekends, hosts, and venues. From a weekend in the midwest, to a weekend in Texas, to the pacific northwest, and even in Missouri, Derek is surely hitting a home near you soon. After the logistics, the rest is in the hands of the people who love him most, getting the chance to hear these stellar stories and songs in such an intimate setting. If you’re interested in learning more about how to host Derek in your home, read here!

A few of his upcoming stops within the next few months include Atlanta, Huntsville, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Chicago, and more! Check out all dates here!

Get ready for the house tour with all things Derek on Spotify:

We at Olivia Management cannot thank Derek’s fans enough who have not only opened so many homes to share these beautiful stories, but have also poured so much back into these stories to share for years to come. Do not miss the next leg of Derek’s house show tour now through the Spring season!

Ringing in the New Year at Olivia Management

by Jacob Welsch

As we finally settle back into the office after the holidays, we at Olivia Management are not delaying when it comes to working towards the company’s resolutions for 2023. When we set goals for ourselves and as a team, we are then able to push ourselves to perform our best work for our artists and clients. With that being said, Olivia has set forth some ‘champagne goals’ and cannot wait to see all that our artists will be up to this year.

We know you’re probably asking yourself, what are these champagne goals you speak of? These goals are a few of our resolutions as a company in the new year and each time we reach one, we pop open some bubbly to celebrate. From playing at new venues and festivals, releasing new music, touring in new cities, and gaining more recognition, read below to see a few of our specific champagne goals!

Headlining the Ryman has always been a dream of ours. Most of our artists are Nashville based and have spent their entire lives seeings shows in this stunning venue in hopes of performing there one day. Olivia Records reaching a combined one million streams, a record going gold, and any of our artists reaching over a million monthly listeners are obvious goals when it comes to popping the bubbly. Lastly, after working with several Grammy-nominated artists, we believe all of our artists have what it takes to take it to the next level.

And don’t worry about missing our artists this year! Everyone is keeping busy recording and writing new music, planning releases, and touring around the states. So get your tickets to see your favorite artists before you regret it! A few of our artists starting the year off on tour include The Sewing Club, Mary Gauthier, and Derek Webb.

We hope you won’t miss us on the road this year! The Sewing Club is heading on tour with Arlie, Derek Webb is in the middle of his House Show Tour, and Mary Gauthier is soon joining the True Heart Troubadour Tour. We also have some home shows coming within the next few months so we hope you stay tuned.

Olivia Management wishes everyone a happy and healthy 2023. We hope to see you at one of our shows and hope you remember that we truly could not do any of this without you. We also hope that you not only surround yourself with good people and good music this year, but that you take the time to create a few champagne goals for yourself and celebrate all that you have accomplished.

Jill Andrews Fall Tour!

By Anna Sampson

From her days fronting lauded Americana group, the Everbodyfields, to her successful solo career as a writer and performer, Jill Andrews’ music has taken her far from her East Tennessee home. She has collaborated and shared the stage with countless celebrated artists including the Avett Brothers, Langhorne Slim, Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, and the Secret Sisters, and her music has been featured on Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Wife, Nashville, Wynonna Earp and This Is Us.

Featuring emotional melodies, intimate storytelling, and vocals that soar even at a whisper, Andrews’ third studio album, Thirties, is a deviation, it resists contemplating the big, loud questions of the world, and rather, invites listeners to look inward, keeping us closer to home than ever before. Along with a full-colour, hard-cover companion book, Thirties released in early 2020. During quarantine, Andrews’ combed through her songwriting catalog and dug up treasures she had written as far back as 2013.

She released both the Vultures and Ellen EPs in 2021, celebrating her darker side and folk song writing roots respectively.

Jill has most recently released an EP of songs, recorded in Nashville’s Parthenon in June of 2022. Titled “Jill Andrews (The Parthenon Sessions)”, listen above!

For the past few weeks, Jill Andrews has been on the road with Clem Snide on their fall 2022 US tour! Sadly this is one of the last two shows that they have left on this leg of the tour, if you find yourself in Lexington, Kentucky tonight, October 19, they’re heading to the Burl, get your tickets here!

The Jill Andrews and Clem Snide tour is wrapping up at Nashville’s 3rd & Lindsley tomorrow, October 20! Make sure you don’t miss it, get your tickets here!

Excitingly, Jill Andrews is hitting the road once again in the UK in just two short weeks! Get your tickets here as well!

Stay up to date with news from Jill on her socials!

Nashville Eats & OM Beats

by Jacob Welsch

Here at Olivia Management, there are three things we love more than anything. Good music, Good people, and most importantly- Good food. We often find ourselves exploring Nashville’s finest eateries but wish there was some way we knew exactly what to listen to while satisfying our cravings.

After further investigation and finding what paired best with Nashville’s most popular spots; we have made it easy for you to take the day for yourself, plug in your headphones, and munch munch crunch crunch! Follow along as we show you what songs by our artists will pair best with the top restaurants in Music City.

Milk & Honey - “Morning is Made” by Hush Kids

To start us off, Picture this: It’s Tuesday Morning. You decide instead of working from home today, you’re going out of your comfort shell and getting work done at Milk & Honey. What are you ordering? Nova Lox Bagel. What are you listening too? Morning is Made by Hush Kids. The perfect start to the day.

615 Deli - “Trying” by The Sewing Club

As the afternoon comes and you’re ready for lunch, not only do you need the perfect sandwich or burger combo, but you also need that perfect song to keep you going and energized. The Sewing Club is offering you just this. “Trying” is the perfect afternoon pump up paired with The Legend Sandwich.

Pastaria Italian Dining - “Landslide” by Alex Blue

Entertain us one again if you will. It’s a rainy Friday evening and after the long week you just had, you want nothing more than to order takeout and sit on the couch with a glass of wine and some Italian food. We believe that a bowl of Chitarra al Pomodoro pairs perfectly with your favorite white wine and Alex Blue’s cover of Landslide.

Cafe Intermezzo - “Hold onto My Hand” by Peter Groenwald

For dessert, Cafe Intermezzo is bringing the cake and Peter Groenwald is bringing the tunes. Red Velvet Torte and “Hold onto My Hand.” That’s it.

Dino’s Dive Bar and Grill - “One in the Morning” by Smooth Hound Smith

Lastly, always a fan favorite- Dino’s. Dino’s is a Nashville classic and we believe that Smooth Hound Smith is your best bet when it comes to your late night feasting with the besties at one in the morning.

At Olivia Management, we hope that you are able to not only enjoy some quality food, but some of our favorite songs to go with these bites and the people you love. We also believe it is important to explore locally owned restaurants and upcoming artist to not only achieve full stomachs, but also full ears, and full hearts.

Fall Essentials at Olivia Management

by Jacob Welsch

The transition from Summer to Fall has always been a favorite of mine. As the days slowly get shorter, and the need for a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte becomes more evident, September is the best time to snuggle up on the couch with your favorite people, and most importantly- your favorite fall soundtrack. Here at Olivia Management, we love just that. Because of this, we have taken it upon ourselves to set you up for success when it comes to this new season. So cuddle up, because we asked our team for their go-to Autumn record that will ensure you the coziest season full of warmth, spice, love, and festivities.

Erin - “Life in Slow Motion” by David Gray

To start us off, the woman behind it all has chosen an early 2000’s classic, “Life in Slow Motion” by David Gray. Paired alongside her favorite recipe from Alison Roman, nothing quite gets better than this record and a bowl of Spiced Chickpea Stew!

Merk - “For Emma, Forever Ago” by Bon Iver

Up next, Merk has chosen Bon Iver’s first album, and a touchstone of the indie folk genre, “For Emma, Forever Ago.”

Fun fact: This album was recorded in a cabin in the woods while founder Justin Vernon was taking some time away for self reflection. If that doesn’t scream Fall, I don’t know what does.

Grace - “Tapestry” by Carol King

Grace has chosen not only an album we all should know and love, but also a masterpiece.

“Tapestry” by Carol King was long before its time and has impacted the music industry more than we will ever know, especially for women. This album not only topped the U.S. album chart for fifteen weeks in 1971, but it also remained on the charts for six years after its initial release. A fall MUST!

Maddy - “Red” by Taylor Swift

Moving on to the Swiftie of the office, Taylor Swift’s “Red “ is a staple for more than just Maddy. For the sad girl autumn, or for the post break-up comeback, this album has everything you need to get you through the Fall.

Anna Layne - “This Empty Northern Hemisphere” by Gregory Alan Isakov

Although “Red” comes in first for Anna Layne as well, “This Empty Northern Hemisphere” is a close second place. This heartfelt, honest, and authentic album will leave anyone in the cozy spirit and ready to curl up in a ball on the couch.

Jacob - “Surrender” by Maggie Rogers

I am a strong believer that anything by Maggie Rogers is a year round listen. “Surrender” specifically dives deeper into emotion, sexuality, and freedom, delivering anything your heart could desire in this season of change which is why it is so important to immerse yourself in this album.

Juils - “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane

For Juils, “Somewhere Only We Know” is the single song that captures every aspect of Fall in her books. The right amount of love, hope, yearning, and comfort.

You’ve made it! You are officially ready for Fall and all things cozy.

At Olivia Management, we pride ourselves on knowing good music when we hear it. We hope that this not only helps you smoothly transition from Summer to Fall, but our hope is that you also take time for yourself to cuddle up, drink a pumpkin spice latte, and know exactly the music to help you spice up your Fall season.
